Carlo Sala graduated in Law from Milan Catholic University in 1991. He is married with three children.
Carlo is a lawyer with several years of experience in IP law (trademarks, know how, patents, utility models, design, copyright), unfair competition, advertising, labeling, IP-related contractual issues, including licensing and due diligence reporting. He represents commercial clients in all types of litigation before all courts in Italy and before the competent EU bodies (e.g. EU Courts and EUIPO), where his expertise in all IP related matters has been recognized by his clients - which include law firms in need of specialized help.
Carlo’s legal record includes cases which have been referred to in most of the major legal reports and in the business press. For example, in the 90s, one of Carlo’s cases was the first Italian precedent affirming the application of trademark law to domain names.
Recently two decisions by Milan and Venice IP Court granted Carlo's clients request to acknowledge copyright protection to the design of a well known after ski boot, while another applied the ‘doctrine of equivalents’ and the existing rules on contributory infringement in a patent infringement case.
In the 2010-2020 decade, Carlo took part in the EUIPO’s “Stakeholder Quality Assurance Panels Project” for ECTA (European Trademark Association) thereby auditing some the EUIPO’s invalidity decisions.
Carlo is also the author of articles in legal journals and has been speaker at IP events in Italy and elsewhere. Carlo collaborated with the Chair of IP Law at Milan University in the 2000-2010 decade.
